The Centre for Information Technology in Construction
With rapid technological innovations, the construction industry is experiencing unprecedented change and dynamic conditions resulting from global competition and societal demands for safe, secure, and sustainable buildings, infrastructure, products and services with ever-increasing standards of performance, constantly diminishing environmental impacts, and steadily reducing costs of construction, operation, and decommissioning. It has been widely acknowledged that these demands can only be met through improved supply chain and life cycle performance management, with information technology playing a key enabling role. There is also growing support from governments throughout the world for sustainable development which are committing to delivering thriving, vibrant, sustainable communities involving the regeneration of towns and cities. This is bringing about major business shifts in the construction industry with the term 'built environment' gaining much currency over 'construction'.
The Centre for Information Technology in Construction (CITC) is at the forefront of developing Construction IT and has made significant contributions in communication, visualisation, integration, and intelligent systems research.
The Centre has participated in projects on process protocols, product models, knowledge-based systems and numerous integrated computing environments.
Current efforts focus on developing modelling and simulation environments for the virtual prototyping of sustainable buildings and cities.
